FAQs

  • A birth doula is a trained professional who offers continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to their clients before, during, and shortly after childbirth. Their primary goal is to help families achieve the healthiest and most satisfying birthing experience possible.

Research shows that the presence of a doula can lead to better physical and psychological outcomes for pregnant individuals, those giving birth, and postpartum women, as well as for their babies. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that doula support can reduce the need for interventions, lower the rates of postpartum depression, and improve breastfeeding success.

Doulas are dedicated advocates for their clients, providing evidence-based information to empower families in their decision-making. Their involvement can positively influence the entire family's well-being, fostering a supportive environment during one of life’s most profound transitions.

Having a doula means having a knowledgeable presence who can navigate the complexities of childbirth, ensuring that families feel heard, respected, and supported every step of the way. This holistic approach to care acknowledges the unique needs of each family, promoting a more positive and empowering birth experience. Therefore, everyone should consider the valuable support that a doula can provide during childbirth.

  • I have undergone extensive training to offer optimal support to my clients. I completed a DONA-certified doula training and am certified through Lifespan Doulas. Additionally, I have participated in a Spinning Babies Workshop that emphasizes techniques for optimal fetal positioning. I am trained in the use of a TENS unit, which is available to my clients at no additional cost to assist in managing labor discomfort. To further support new parents, I have completed an advanced professional lactation support workshop. Currently, I am enhancing my skills with a 5-month Body Ready Method Professional Training, starting in September 2024, to improve my ability to assist with physical preparation for birth and postpartum recovery.

  • If I find myself unable to attend your birth due to circumstances such as illness, injury, a family emergency, another birth commitment, or any other unforeseen events, please be assured that a qualified back-up doula will be present to provide you with the necessary support and care you deserve during this important time.

  • I provide flexible payment plans to accommodate your needs. To secure my availability for your birth month, a 40% deposit is required. The remainder can be divided into manageable payments, with the final payment due by 36 weeks of pregnancy.

  • I offer support in Seattle, WA, along with the surrounding areas, including Everett, Shoreline, Mercer Island, Bellevue, Kirkland, Redmond, Sammamish, Burien, Tukwila, SeaTac, Des Moines, Federal Way, Tacoma, Steilacoom, Renton, Kent, Covington, Maple Valley, Auburn, and Vashon Island (including any applicable ferry fees). If there are additional cities not mentioned, I would be happy to discuss the circumstances and will accommodate if possible.

  • Doulas do not replace partners in the birth space; instead, they enhance a partner's ability to provide support. A doula works collaboratively with the partner, offering guidance and reassurance throughout the birthing process. This partnership can lead to a more positive experience for everyone involved. In my experience as a doula, many partners have expressed their gratitude after the birth, often remarking, “Thank you so much for being here; I didn’t realize how much I needed you too!” A doula's presence can empower the partner, allowing them to be fully engaged while receiving the support they need.

  • I sure do!

  • As a doula, I have clear limitations that define my role in supporting you during pregnancy and childbirth. My primary function is to provide emotional support and physical comfort, while respecting your autonomy and decisions. Here are my key limitations:

    1. Performing Clinical Tasks: I do not perform any medical procedures, which includes monitoring vital signs like blood pressure, checking fetal heart rates, or conducting vaginal exams. My focus is solely on offering comfort measures such as massage, breathing techniques, and continuous emotional support.

    2. Making Decisions for You: I do not make decisions on your behalf. My role is to provide you with information and resources to help you understand your options. I can assist in clarifying your preferences and remind you if there are deviations from your birth plan, but the choice remains yours.

    3. Communicating with Staff: I do not speak to medical staff on your behalf. While I can discuss your preferences and concerns with you and provide suggestions, it is you or your partner who will engage directly with the clinical team. My intention is to empower you to advocate for yourself.

By adhering to these limitations, I aim to create a supportive environment that honors your choices and promotes your confidence during this important time.
